Boris Giltburg - 21 October 2018
“Russian piano music at its best in the hands of Boris Giltburg....Giltburg's riveting performance caught Shostakovich's [Eighth Quartet] anarchic spirit perfectly"
Straits Times, June 2016
Le Tombeau de Couperin, M.68
Sonata no.23 in F minor, Op.57 (Appassionata)
String Quartet no.3 in F major, Op.73
Sonata no.3 in A minor, Op.28
We open the season with this outstanding Russian/Israeli pianist, born in Moscow in 1984. He is a major prize winner, including second (and audience) prize at the Rubinstein in 2011, and first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2013.
He has played solo recitals and appeared with many leading orchestras in the UK, Europe, the USA, South America, Australia and China. He made his BBC Proms debut in 2010.
His recordings of Prokofiev’s “war sonatas” (nos 6-8), Shostakovich Piano Concertos (coupled with his own arrangement of Shostakovich’s 8th String Quartet), and chamber works with the Pavel Haas Quartet have all received critical acclaim - his 2017 recording of Dvorak's Piano Quartet No 2 in A, Op.81, with the Pavel Haas Quartet, was the recommended recording in BBC Radio 3's "Building a Library" recently. We can enjoy another Shostakovich quartet arrangement in his programme.
