A native of Malaysia, Mei Yi studied at the Royal College and Royal Academy of Music in London with Yonty Solomon, Chris Elton and Alexander Satz and currently holds a teaching position at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Winner of the BBC Best Newcomer of the Year award, Mei Yi dazzled critics and audiences at the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2013 with her ‘liberating’ and ‘virtuoso display’ (The Times).

Her recordings, notably her award-winning album ‘Musical Toys’ and her CD 'ConNotations’ with the Britten Sinfonia and Ashley Wass, have also met with unanimous critical acclaim.

She brings a recital of eclectic pianistic styles, ending each half with a work of dramatic and virtuosic character - Balakirev’s Islamey is a formidable peak in the piano repertoire, accessible only to the most intrepid and the Messiaen no less challenging.
